Here's the difference between a safe technician and someone with a drill: we open without damage whenever it's possible. Many safes we can pick or manipulate open without touching the body at all. For some manufacturers, we can recover the original code outright. And when a safe has to be entered through the lock, we drill a small, precise hole to read the code from the lock body itself, a method that doesn't damage the safe or affect how it operates afterward. Every safe is a different path: some open easily, some require patience, and a few are built to be destroyed before they open. The point is, we try every non-destructive method first. Drilling is the last resort, never the first move.

Sentry safe, lost combination: code recovered from the manufacturer. A customer forgot the combination to his Sentry safe. Because he'd never changed it from the original manufacturer code, we were able to call Sentry's tech support (with whom we hold an account), provide proof of ownership, and recover the original code directly. We wrote it down, walked him through using his safe, and saved him a major headache. No drilling, no damage.

Retail store, dead digital keypad. A retail store called because their safe suddenly wouldn't open. It had been acting up for a few days and then quit entirely. We first had them try a fresh Energizer 9-volt battery, but it still wouldn't respond. On site, we found the digital keypad had failed completely. It happens, sometimes a keypad fries without warning. We replaced it with a new one, the code worked immediately, and the safe opened. Because keypad failure is common, we carry the most common keypads in the van and finish these jobs the same day.

Retail store, combination change after firing a manager. A retail store had to change their safe combination after letting a manager go. We changed the combination on site with no hardware or component replacement needed. It's a common service we provide whenever an employee with safe access leaves: fast, clean, and it closes a real security gap immediately.

Where a safe goes is part of the security. A gun safe should be concealed (inside a cabinet or behind furniture), not sitting in the open. For retail stores, the safe usually belongs in the back office, out of customer sight. For a residential safe meant for personal valuables, concealment is everything: behind furniture, in a closet, or in-floor where appropriate. A visible safe is a target; a hidden, anchored safe is genuinely protective. We advise on placement as part of every installation.

Almost any safe is worth repairing, as long as the body is in good condition. Nearly all the hardware is replaceable, whether it's the hinges, the bolt work, or the locking mechanism. For American brands, replacement parts are readily available. When it comes to choosing a safe: Sentry safes are very reliable for documents, jewelry, and papers. The lower the price, the lower the quality and the lower the actual security. A cheap safe is a false sense of safety.
