Call Now: (954) 371-5674Ignition Repair, Done On-Site
When your key won't turn or your ignition sticks, you're stuck, and a tow plus a dealer visit is the slow, expensive way to fix it. We repair, rekey, and replace ignition lock cylinders and ignition switches on-site across Broward, on nearly every make and model. No dealer, no tow in most cases. We come to you, diagnose it right, and get you back on the road. Bonded and insured, 24/7.
Our Diagnostic Process: Why We Don't Just Replace Your Ignition
Most ignition problems get misdiagnosed, and a full ignition replacement is the most expensive fix. We work it in order, cheapest first. First, we cut a new key. A worn, old, or bent key is the most common reason an ignition won't turn, and cutting a fresh key by your vehicle's manufacturer key code is the cheapest test. Often that alone solves it. If a new key doesn't fix it, we pull the cylinder and test it disconnected from the car; if it won't operate properly on its own, it needs repair or replacement. And if the cylinder turns fine out of the column, we check the housing (common on Hondas) and the steering lock, which we can repair or bypass. That sequence is the difference between a shop replacing your whole ignition and us solving it for a fraction of the cost.
Every Make: Cylinders Carried in the Van
Many vehicles are prone to ignition-cylinder wear, and we carry cylinders for the common ones in the van (Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, Kia, Hyundai, and VW among them) with suppliers for the rest. Most repairs and replacements happen on the spot, no dealer involved. We rekey new cylinders to your existing key, so a cylinder swap doesn't leave you juggling a second key. When a job does call for a fresh key, our car key replacement service handles it.
What Causes Ignition Problems
A few things wear ignitions out: a heavy keychain hanging off the key puts constant tension on the cylinder, and old, worn, or bent keys grind it down over time. The steering-lock mechanism can also fail. It's a component that wears like any other, and we service it across many makes, including the electronic steering lock (ELV) Mercedes uses.
Jobs We've Done
2008 Honda Fit, worn-key cylinder. A customer could only start her car by jiggling a single old, worn key she'd used for years. We came out for a free estimate, cut a new key by the manufacturer key code, but the ignition still wouldn't turn, which told us the worn key had already damaged the cylinder. We replaced the ignition cylinder, rekeyed it to the original manufacturer code, and handed her two new keys with remotes. Under two hours, back on the road.
Mercedes steering lock (ELV), Hollywood. A customer was stranded in a Walmart parking lot, ignition wouldn't turn. Because Mercedes uses an electronic ignition system, we knew it was one of two things: the key losing sync (rare to happen suddenly) or a failed ELV. We carry replacement ELVs, so we handled it on the spot. The job requires removing the steering column, programming the new ELV, and programming two new keys. Back on the road in a few hours.
Nissan, broken key in the ignition. A customer snapped his key off inside the ignition cylinder. With specialty tools we extracted it without damaging the cylinder, cut a new key, and had him going again in minutes, the same approach as our dedicated broken key extraction service.
When You Need a Key, When You Don't
Not every ignition job needs a new key programmed. Syncing the immobilizer is a separate part of the work. On a mechanical cylinder, we rekey the new cylinder to match your existing keys, no programming needed. You only need a new key cut and programmed if the key itself is being replaced. On electronic push-button ignitions, we often don't touch the key at all. If the system stopped reading keys or the button broke, we replace and program that module. Price depends on the situation and your vehicle's year, make, and model. A broken-key extraction is far cheaper than a full replacement, and a repair or rekey is always cheaper than replacing the whole ignition. We give you the price upfront after a free estimate, before any work starts.
Honest Advice: Don't Wait on a Failing Ignition
If your key feels loose in the ignition, or you have to jiggle it to start the car, get a spare key made now. Those are warning signs the key is failing and may be damaging the cylinder, and it's only a matter of time before you're stuck and can't start the car at all. If your key looks worn or bent, don't force it into the ignition and don't force the rotation, or you'll only speed up the damage. A fresh spare key is the cheap fix that prevents the expensive one. We make and program car keys on-site across Broward: Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, and every city in between.

Common Questions
Can you fix my ignition without a tow to the dealer?
Yes. We carry cylinders and switches in the van and do most ignition repairs and replacements on-site, no dealer needed.
How long does an ignition repair take?
Most on-site jobs run from a few minutes (broken-key extraction) to a couple of hours (full cylinder or ELV replacement). We give a timeline at the free estimate.
What's the difference between the ignition cylinder and the switch?
The cylinder is the mechanical part where your key goes; the switch or electronic module sends power when you turn it. We service both.
My key is hard to turn or I have to jiggle it. Is that the ignition?
Often it's a worn key first. We cut a new one to test before touching the ignition. If that doesn't fix it, the cylinder likely needs work.
Will my current key still work after the repair?
On a cylinder rekey, yes. We match the new cylinder to your existing key. You only need a new key if the key itself is replaced.
Do you work on push-button / electronic ignitions?
Yes. We supply and program electronic switches and push-button modules, including failed steering locks (ELV) on makes like Mercedes.
Why do you cut a new key before touching the ignition?
A worn or bent key is the most common reason an ignition won't turn, and cutting a fresh key is the cheapest test. If that fixes it, we saved you an ignition repair. If it doesn't, now we know the cylinder needs attention.
What causes ignition cylinders to wear out?
The most common causes are heavy keychains putting constant tension on the cylinder, and old, worn, or bent keys grinding it down over time. Steering-lock mechanism failure is another cause on certain makes.
On a push-button ignition, does the key need replacing when you fix the system?
Usually not. On electronic push-button systems we replace the module or ELV, not the key. The existing key stays the same and doesn't need reprogramming in most cases.
Do push-button ignitions need a new key when repaired?
Not always. On electronic push-button systems we often replace just the module; the key itself stays the same and doesn't need reprogramming.
What's a free estimate and what does it include?
We come to you, assess whether the issue is the key, the cylinder, the switch, or the steering lock, and tell you the price before any work starts. No charge for the diagnosis.
Key Won't Turn? Don't Force It.
We diagnose the actual cause (key, cylinder, switch, or steering lock) and fix it on-site. Free estimate, upfront pricing.
