Office Building Doors Kept Getting Scratched by Cleaning Carts in Hollywood

Office Building Doors Kept Getting Scratched by Cleaning Carts in Hollywood

An office building’s doors were getting chewed up at the bottom by cleaning carts hitting them every day. We installed a DonJo KP834 stainless steel kick plate, 8 inches high by 34 inches wide, on the first door. The client saw the result and had us do the rest of the building, 16 plates across metal and wood doors.

A Hollywood office building had a wear problem at the bottom of its doors. Cleaning carts were being pushed through them every day, and the carts kept catching the same spot low on each door. Over time that leaves scuffs, dents, and bare marks right where everyone looks when a door is closed.

The fix is a kick plate: a metal panel across the bottom of the door that takes the hit instead of the door. We put up one first so they could see it, a DonJo KP834 in stainless steel, 8 inches high by 34 inches wide to match their doors. Stainless because it wipes clean and holds up, and because it looks right on a commercial entrance.

They saw that one door and asked us to do the whole building. Some of their doors already had plates. We did all the rest, 16 in total, across a mix of metal and wood doors. Each one gets the plate sized and fastened to that specific door, since a metal door and a wood door do not take the same fasteners.

We install kick plates and commercial door hardware across Hollywood and Broward, one door or a whole building. See our door hardware installation page or call (954) 371-5674.

FAQ

Common Questions

What does a kick plate actually do?

It protects the bottom of the door from carts, feet, and daily impact. The plate takes the damage instead of the door, which keeps the door looking clean and lasting longer.

What size kick plate do I need?

It depends on the door width and how much coverage you want. A common commercial size is 8 inches high, cut to the door width. We measure each door rather than guessing.

Do you install kick plates on wood doors and metal doors?

Yes, both. The plate and the fasteners are matched to the door type, since wood and metal hold fasteners differently.

Can you do just one door or do I have to do the whole building?

Either. We are happy to do a single door. Many clients start with one and add more once they see it.

Why stainless steel instead of a cheaper finish?

Stainless wipes clean, resists rust, and holds a professional look on a commercial entrance. On a high-traffic door it is worth the difference.
