A Fort Lauderdale School's Double Doors Were Grinding and Close to Falling

A school’s double doors were sagging, overlapping, and grinding against each other every time they opened or closed. The hinges on both leaves were worn out and already failing when we arrived. We replaced them with BB1279 4.5 by 4.5 ball bearing hinges and had both doors closing smoothly in about two hours.

A Fort Lauderdale school had a set of double doors in bad shape. The two leaves were sagging and overlapping, catching on each other, and grinding metal on metal every single time someone opened or closed them. That noise is the warning. When a double door starts overlapping, the hinges have dropped it out of alignment, and the doors are working against each other instead of meeting in the middle.

The hinges on both sides were worn out and already failing by the time we got there. That is a high-traffic school opening, and standard hinges under that much use eventually wear at the knuckle, the door drops, and once one leaf drops the two stop lining up. Left alone, a door that far gone can pull away from the frame.

We replaced the hinges with BB1279 ball bearing hinges, 4.5 by 4.5. Ball bearing hinges are the right call on a heavy, busy door because the bearings carry the load and the door swings without grinding the knuckle to death. We hung both leaves back into alignment, checked the meeting edge, and had the doors closing smoothly again in about two hours.
