2023 Dodge Challenger Key Stopped Starting the Car After Water Damage, Pembroke Pines

2023 Dodge Challenger Key Stopped Starting the Car After Water Damage, Pembroke Pines

When water gets inside a push-to-start fob, the key can still unlock and wake the dashboard but stops starting the car. We come to you, pull the vehicle data through the port, read the PIN, and program a fresh smart key on-site. No tow, no dealer, no waiting days for a part.

A customer in Pembroke Pines called about his 2023 Dodge Challenger. His smart key had taken on water, and now the car would not start. He could still get the dash lights to come on, but turning the engine over was hit or miss.

That lines up with what water does to a fob. The electronics inside sit on a small circuit board, and once moisture reaches that board the key starts acting unpredictable. His still worked, but only if he held it right against the start button. That is the fob’s backup: when the battery or the chip signal is too weak to read from the cup holder, most push-to-start cars will still read the transponder if you press the key straight to the button. It is a limp-home trick, not a fix, and it fails at the worst time.

We came to him. The dead-looking key still had enough life to power up the dash, which was enough to pull the car’s data. We ran an Autel IM508 to read the PIN off the vehicle and programmed a brand new smart key to the Challenger on the spot. He drove off with a key he could trust before the old one quit for good.

South Florida heat and humidity do not hurt the electronics on their own. It is standing water, a dropped-in-the-pool fob, a spilled drink, a rained-on set of keys that does the damage down here.

Whatever you drive, we cut and program car keys on-site in Pembroke Pines and across Broward. See our full car key service for what we cover, or call (954) 371-5674.

FAQ

Common Questions

Can you make a car key if mine still works but is damaged?

Yes, and it is the better time to do it. If your key can still wake the car, we can pull the data and program a new one faster and cheaper than starting from nothing after it dies.

Do I have to tow my Dodge to the dealer for a smart key?

No. We program Dodge smart keys on-site in Broward. You keep the car where it is, and we come to you.

My push-to-start key only works pressed against the button. What does that mean?

The fob signal is weak, often from a dying battery or water damage. Pressing it to the start button uses the backup reader. Get a new key made before it stops entirely.

How long does it take to program a new Challenger key?

Most on-site smart key jobs run about 20 to 40 minutes once we are with the car, depending on the model and how many keys need programming.

Can water damage really kill a car key?

Yes. Moisture on the fob's circuit board is one of the few things that reliably kills a modern key. It often fails intermittently first, which is the warning sign.
