Beachfront Building Door Kept Sagging No Matter How Many Times the Hinges Were Replaced, Hallandale Beach

A beachfront door had been sagging for years, and standard hinges kept failing because the salt air had rusted out the reinforcements the hinges bolt into. We fit a Select SL57 HD600 Grade 1 geared continuous hinge, 83 inches, full surface. It mounts across the whole door and frame, so it bypasses the corroded spots that kept eating regular hinges.

A Hallandale Beach building had a door that would not stop sagging. Someone had replaced the hinges more than once, and every time the door dropped again within months. By the time we saw it, the owner was ready to hear that the whole door and frame had to come out.

When we took the door off the frame, the real problem was right there. The hinge reinforcements, the metal the hinges bolt into, were badly rusted with heavy salt buildup. That is the beach. Salt air gets into the steel and eats it from the inside. You can put brand new hinges on, but if the metal they screw into is corroded, they have nothing solid to hold, and the door sags again. Replacing the hinges over and over was treating the symptom.

The fix was a Select SL57 HD600 Grade 1 geared continuous hinge, 83 inches, full surface. Instead of three small hinges each bolting into a few rusted spots, a continuous hinge runs the full height of the door and mounts surface-to-surface across the whole door and frame. It carries the load along the entire edge and bypasses the failed reinforcements completely. That is why it holds when butt hinges keep letting go.
